A Black Reader
get ya mind right... on black love, misogynoir & more...
I wanted to give y’all something to read, compiled by yours truly.
For every listening session so far, I’ve paired literature with each album, I was inspired to curate this Black reader in by discovering Kelela’s Primer that she would send to others that were interviewing or working with her in any aspect, to make it perfectly clear where she stands as a Black woman in the industry. Of course, I do not have access to everything in said primer. I did, however, find a few essays and books that she either mentioned in interviews or were included in a reader compiled by Kandis Williams via Cassandra Press on misogynoir that is also included in the primer. The reader on misogynoir is no longer available for download or purchase and I wanted something available for those attending the listening session and to live on Substack to read prior to attending. So I combined a litle of this and that, I also included essays I read this past spring in my classics in feminist text class.
Below is the Reader on Black Love & Misogynoir PDF I compiled.
